Personal Bests a Plenty at Fairfield Festival
Ace Swimming Club were supporting Fairfield Swimming Club’s ‘Festival’ meet held on Sunday 10th February. The weather really turned on for the day, there was plenty of sunscreen being used up!
The club had 11 swimmers attend the well-organised meet held at Fairfield College.
Personal Bests a Plenty!
There were plenty of personal bests. Out of 67 swims there were 44 PBs keeping Director of Coaching, @CoachPaulDowey happy with a 65.67% PB percentage. “This was a great opportunity for our Junior swimmers to have a last hit out ahead of their Zonal Junior meet scheduled for this weekend.”
Division 2 Athletes in Action
There were also some older swimmers picking up some last events to fill out their programme for NZ Division 2 to be held later in March, Dunedin. We look forward to seeing what the updated team of Sean Young, Gabby Austin, Monique Austin and Trinity McDonald-Wilson can do on the nationals stage.
Biggest PB, Swim of the day and worthy mentions.
Some swimmers were attempting races for the first time and gaining confidence as they went. Great to see Diny tackle 200m freestyle for the first time. Hayley McIntyre also tackled the 200m butterfly, holding her technique and making it look easy.
The award for the biggest PB was Diny Zhou in her 100m IM. She knocked an outstanding 15 seconds off her time!
Swim of the day would have to go to Katie Haysom who battled some shoulder trouble during the year and managed to knock 5 seconds off her 100m breaststroke time. She showed great technique, really listening and then translating into the pool what the coach was telling her.
Thanks to Michelle for team manager throughout the day, to the Austin family for keeping the coach hydrated and sheltered from the sun, and to all the parents who did time-keeping or cheered on their very special team!
